If you’re reading this blog post on January 5th, 2013, that means I’m reading (providing I woke up on time to get started). If you’re reading this blog post after that date, I couldn’t tell you what I’m doing. Sorry, my look-into-the-future skills aren’t working yet this year. All the same, it’s readathon time for The Classics Club!
Confession: I am a readathon virgin. My ever-changing work and school schedule usually keeps me from these events, but I managed to plan things out well enough this time around to participate. I also have trouble keeping on track with anything for an entire day, so fingers crossed that doesn’t happen. Now, I bet you all want to know what I’m reading today…
The List:
1. The End of the Affair by Graham Greene
2. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
3. My Antonia by Willa Cather
4. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
5. A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway
I don’t know if this is a normal readathon load, if I’m way in over my head, or if the readathon regulars are scoffing at my mediocre-at-best goal. But no matter, no matter, it’s plenty exciting all the same. Also, all of these books come from my 2013 TBR Pile Challenge list.
I’ll be live tweeting as I go along if anyone wants to follow @lostgenreader on Twitter. There will be books. There will be witty banter. There will be snacks. There will be coffee. A lot of coffee.
Shameless Advertising: The “WORDS ARE MY WEAPON” necklace that is featured in the picture above is available from bama+ry on Etsy for anyone interested. There are many inspiring copper and nickel options, and you can also have something custom made.
Happy reading to everyone participating in the readathon!

Happy Readthon from Sydney, Australia

Thank you!
Hi, I’m a new follower of your blog
This is my first readathon too, like you I normally have too many commitments. Things Fall Apart is a simply written but powerful book, I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for following! Best of luck with the readathon.
I think you have a lot of good books planned, but that means you have options! If you get tired of one, there’s always another to check out. I agree, Things Fall Apart is simply written and very powerful. Have a great day!
Thank you! I might not get to Things Fall Apart today, but I’m excited to read it soon regardless.
This is my first readathon too! And great list – very ambitious!
Thank you! I won’t get through it all, but I will get through three, possibly four. Not too bad!
Thank you for your sweet words about your necklace! It’s a great one! My favorite, of course.
Also, I agree with the above commenter… Things Fall Apart is absolutely SUPERB.
I don’t think I’ll get to Things Fall Apart today, unfortunately, but I’ll definitely get to it soon. Also, I keep playing with the necklace as I read. It sounds somewhat musical, haha.
Always good to have a pile to choose from and you have some great titles. Enjoy your reading!
Many thanks! It’s going well so far.
Good luck with your reading!
Thank you!
How are things going!? Your pile is adventurous – I’ve only committed to two books and I’m just starting on the second, now. Hoping I can finish it (it’s only 120 pages, but pretty heavy reading, from what I hear).
I’m through Hemingway and Greene and have just started Carroll now. I’m breaking for dinner soon, then back to reading. I will get through Carroll and do what I can with Cather, but I don’t see myself getting beyond that. I’ve also been following your tweets and saw you were at the second book. Well done! I’m really enjoying the readathon.
Out of your pile I’ve only ever read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and I quite liked it. How far are you so far with your pile?
(that necklace is gorgeous!)
I’m through Hemingway and Greene and onto Carroll now, so I’m trucking along! I won’t get through everything, though. I need to break for dinner very soon and doubt I’ll be able to stay awake the whole 24-hour period. I only got three hours of sleep at most last night, so I’m struggling.
I know how you feel. It’s past 1am now and I’m definitely going to sleep. I can’t seem to do the 24-hour thing
It’s not easy to do! Have a good night.
I really feel like a lightweight now that I’ve read your readathon post! I ended up reading most of Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses, which I loved. I finished reading the novel when I got up on Sunday. Hope you enjoyed your first readathon–it was my first as well…
I hear that’s a great book! I hope you enjoyed it. I didn’t actually read all the books I listed. I read Things Fall Apart over the next couple days, and I’m reading My Antonia right now.
